World War 2 Documents Of Displaced People Now Digitized

world war2 displacedThe associated press came out with a good article on the digitizing of the people displaced by world war 2. Of course, the people were not digitized, but the millions of documents that contain precious information about these people were put in electronic format.

A group in Germany headed this project which took over a year and a half to complete. The International Tracing Service of Bad Arolsen mentioned that this process took over a year and a half to complete. The documents reveal the fate and migration of those who were rescued from the concentration camps, prisoner of war camps, and forced labor camps.

During this time, the people who were displaced documented exactly what they had gone through during the war and explained reasons for their desire to migrate or emigrate. The digitizing of these documents helps to preserve the original files, while at the same time making it easier to search for certain documents.

For decades these world war 2 documents were under tight restrictions. But now, they are publicly available for historians as well as the general public to access and view. This shift has created an insightful and beneficial research tool that the world can take advantage of now.
