Stephanie Meyer’s Twilight series should be no stranger to most of us avid novel readers or storybook lovers since its much-admired and instant popularity for the last few years. Today, this all-time favorite vampire book series is still ranking top spots, within the USA TODAY’s Best Selling Books list of 2009. The era of vampire romance and mythical beasts are not quite ready to roll over and die yet or come to an end.
For the second year in a row, Stephenie Meyer’s Twilight series has stolen the top four positions for popular book sales. This accomplishment is commendable considering that there has not been an author to ever do this in the best sellers list for the last 16 years. Surprisingly, not even J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter has ever achieved this milestone.
As a result of Twilight’s success and fan base, it has pulled in over 16 other vampire novels onto the list as the 100 most popular books of 2009.
Michael Norris, market & book analyst for Simba Information, a market-research firm, stated, “Meyer has had an unbelievable impact.” He also stated that he wonders what publishers will do when this vampire industry average falls. “She’s not just read by teens and tweens, but by a lot of 30 year old women.”
However, regardless of who’s reading the books, 29% of annual book sales were accounted to children and teen books. This is the highest percentage for this lists category since it’s inception.
